Gastritis is the most common disorder occurring in the UGI tract.
It is inflammation of the stomach lining, small erosions or ulcerations may also be present. Causes include alcohol, medications such as aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) increase production of HCL, or Helicobacter.
Endoscopically, Gastritis appears as a red, inflamed rash like area.
Erosive Gastritis is a condition in which small erosions are present. Watermelon Gastritis is a hemorrhagic condition that has a watermelon like appearance. Bleeding may occur if medication does not promote healing and laser therapy has been used to treat this condition.
